The vast, open plains of Nebraska, with its characteristic rugged landscape, gives it a charm that is rather unique.
Nebraska is known for the long Midwest prairies that make up the famous Great Plains, and the sandy, tranquil landscape that comes with it.
If you and your partner are into hiking, Nebraska will fill your trip with adventure. The state is home to some incredible hiking trails, which span everything from the ‘moonscape’ terrain of the Toadstool Geologic Park (check it out as the sun is rising or setting, for a view that is truly out of this world), to the Lake McConaughy State Recreation Area, which boasts almost 35,000 acres of water and shoreline stretching for 100 miles.
Another must-add to your Nebraska to-do list is to follow the trail of a scenic byway. These lone roads are a brilliant way to explore the state’s iconic terrain, and a wonderful activity for you to enjoy, just the two of you.
Some of our favourite Nebraska routes include the Outlaw Trail, Bridges to Buttes, 385-Gold Rush, Sandhills Journey and Loup Rivers scenic byways.
Once you’ve thoroughly explored Nebraska’s natural landscape, complete your visit with a trip to the city of Omaha. Nebraska’s largest city is known for cultural sights like the Durham Museum and the Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium (which is home to the world’s largest glazed geodesic dome, and the largest indoor desert in the world), as well as natural spectacles, like the 3,000 feet-Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge.
The city also has a wealth of fabulous farm-to-fork restaurants, which proudly showcase the produce from local farms.
