The capital is also home to another of Utah’s most iconic natural splendours. The Great Salt Lake (which gives the city its namesake) is an unmissable Utah experience. It is actually a body of water that is left over from Lake Bonneville, a prehistoric lake of epic proportions.

Today, tourists hike across the former shores of this ancient lake, or kayak and boat across the water.
